緒方 貞子（Sadako Ogata）

どうしたらあんなに流暢に英語が話せるのか，また，国際的な舞台で要職がつとまるのか，緒方先生の略歴を調べてみました。顕著な普遍性，国際的に通用する人物になる為には，若い頃から何を心がけ，どの様な進路を選んでいくべきか，知識と経験，語学力，人間性などを学んでみることにしましょう。国際人の緒方先生にとって，日本の外務大臣などよりも国連の事務総長などの方が魅力的なのかもしれません。今後のお元気に頑張って頂きたいと思います。

略　歴（Brief　Career）

1951年聖心女子大学卒業。1963年にカリフォルニア大学バークレー校にて博士課程修了。1976年から国連日本政府代表部公使を務めた他、ユニセフ執行理事会議長、国連人権委員会日本政府代表を歴任。91年からは国連難民高等弁務官に就任。また、長年日本の大学において国際関係論の研究に従事し、1980年から上智大学教授、1989年から同大学外国語学部長も務めた。国際関係論や人権問題に関する著書、論文を多数発表している。

Dr. Sadako Ogata graduated from the University of the Sacred Heart in 1951 and received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963. She served as the minister at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations beginning in 1976, and was also the chairperson of the Executive Board of UNICEF and the Representative of Japan on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. In 1991, she assumed the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She has studied and taught international relations at Japanese universities for many years, became a professor at Sophia University in 1980 and has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Studies at Sophia since 1989. She has written many books and articles on international relations and human rights issues.
